SMS CHORAL STUDENTS ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE!
The SMS Choral students, directed by Nadia Sawa-Veremchuk, made a difference for fellow classmates at the start of the school year. In the hustle and bustle of getting ready for back to school, it's easy to forget that there are some who may not have the means to purchase back to school supplies. As we welcomed a new school year, Mrs. Veremchuk and her students took on an initiative to focus on the five principals of a "Community of Caring"--caring, respect, responsibility, trust and family. The first goal of the school year was to help the SMS families and students who were facing financial and emotional hardships by collecting and donating extra school supplies for students in need at our school.
SMS choral students collected over one hundred items to donate to fellow classmates in need. A small celebration was held on August 25th to show appreciation for the choral students and their hardwork. Principal Karen Rose, Assistant Principal Paula Cimillo and our SMS counselors, Marti Watson and Shelley Burke were all in attendance at our special celebration. Thank you to parent volunteer Ana Flores for setting up decorations and bringing in snacks for the students.
