The School Resource Officer at Sarasota Middle School is available to answer any law enforcement related questions you might have throughout the year. My door is always open, and I welcome the opportunity to meet as many of you as possible. Please call or stop by my office during school hours with any questions or concerns you have. You can reach me by calling Sarasota Middle School at 361-6464 or through the Sheriff’s Office Youth Services Unit at 927-4190. Also, students can report safety concerns anonymously 24 hours a day on the “Be Brave” hotline (1-877-723-2728).
What is a School Resource Officer?
The S.R.O. Program is a nationally accepted program involving the placement of a law enforcement officer within the educational environment on several different levels:
· As a visible, active law enforcement figure on campus dealing with any law-related issues.
· As an extension of the principal’s office in dealing with a variety of situations.
· As a resource for the students, which will enable the students to be associated with a law enforcement figure in the student’s environment rather than that of law enforcement.
· As a resource to teachers, parents, and students for conferences on an individual basis to deal with individual problems or questions.
· As a counseling resource in areas that may affect the educational environment or may be law enforcement related.
Our SRO works with Sarasota Middle School students as part of the SMS Panther Patrol. The Panther Patrol is a group of students that are perhaps interested in a career in Law Enforcement or are just interested in crime prevention and want to know more about it. For more information on the SMS Panther Patrol, please click on the link above or call the school at 361-6464 and ask for the SRO.
